Legendary flautist Jean Pierre Rampal,whose career spans more than half a century, is recognized as one of the most distinguished performing musicians of the 20th century. His recordings, numbering more than 300, have been issued and reissued by all of the most important record labels of our time. Member of the French Legion of Honor and recipient of the (Gran Medalla de la ville de Paris) where an international flute contest bears his name, he has also been honored by citations from governments in Poland (Varsovia) and Japan. As conductor he has led such orchestras as the French National Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic among many others.
